Crystal Files put Health Back in the Hands of the Consumer

May 23, 2006 – With pedicure season upon us, Monika Burton, founder and president of Canadian company Burton's Crystal Files and Burton Spa urges consumers to follow simple steps to ensure that beautiful hands and feet don’t come at the expense of health and well being. The reminder comes on the heels of a lawsuit recently launched in Texas by the family of a woman who died as the result of a staph infection from a pedicure.

Despite laws in place to regulate sanitary procedures, even the very best salons accidentally break those protocols on a busy day. Discount salons can be a virtual breeding ground for potentially harmful bacteria and disease – and there seems to have been an explosion of these operations in recent years. No one wants to have improperly sterilized equipment used on them – but it happens, and the results can be life threatening.

Burton cautions people to choose their salon carefully: “Look for a sink in the room with swept, clean floors and uncluttered surfaces. Ensure the person giving you your pedicure wears fresh surgical gloves. Your esthetician should be licensed. Talk to your friends about their experiences too. You’d do at least that much when choosing a doctor or a dentist – and when it comes to your health, a good salon is no less important,” she said.

She also recommends bringing your own nail implements, starting with Burton Crystal Files ™ -- an important tool in the fight against home and spa born diseases. The glass surface on Burton’s Crystal Files™ make them easier to clean than files made of ridged metal, meaning exposure to harmful bacteria is considerably reduced. For single person use, a quick wash with soapy water is all that’s needed.

Burton’s Crystal Files also prevent chipping and splitting, a better alternative to metal and paper nail files – and, unlike metal or paper, Burton’s Crystal Files can be safely used in both directions, without tearing your nails, meaning a faster manicure. Because they’re made of glass, the files are easier on the environment and on the body which can absorb the tiny metal fragments thrown off from traditional files – and they’re kinder to nails than harsh paper emery boards. Burton’s Crystal Foot Files are a safe, effective alternative to pumice stones and other agents more prone to bacteria growth.

There are other brands of crystal files but most are not of the same quality, made of a thinner and inferior glass. Effective yet gentle, Burton’s Crystal Files are safe for use on diabetics, babies and even pets. Burton’s Crystal Files and individual Spa Kits and Road Diva Travel Sets are available at select retail outlets and spas and at
